Topic Characteristics: Decentralized finance (DeFi) is an umbrella term for the part of the crypto universe that is geared toward building a new, internet-native financial system, using blockchains to replace traditional intermediaries and trust mechanisms. Total value locked in DeFi increased from $600 million at the start of 2020 to $239 billion so far in 2022, a nearly 40,000% rise, according to a new research report. The report’s author, blockchain data provider Amberdata, said the massive rise is “still in the early stages,” adding that total value locked (TVL) should “increase dramatically” in the next few years as institutions enter the market. The only make or break piece of the puzzle is how to increase inclusion in this market via personalized, easy to use and reliable digital wallets. This thesis proposal focuses on the study of general applications related to blockchain in the financial sector and on the development of a digital wallet for the management of any type of digital asset. The goal of this work is defined by these steps:
- Blockchain technology: general review of what is a blockchain, basic cryptography concepts, what is a wallet and how keys and addresses works, consensus mechanisms, smart contracts and Ethereum Virtual Machines, fungible and non-fungible tokens, web3.
- Blockchain x Fintech: general study of the financial applications of the blockchain technology like Wallets, DEXs (Decentralized Exchanges), DeFi, staking and liquidity pools
- Code an ERC-20 wallet: develop a simple crypto wallet that enables the owner to manage his crypto assets trough al the basic functionalities of deposits, withdraws, transfers and transactions history. This will be powered by a smart contract on the Ethereum Blockchain that should interact with a minimalistic UI.

At the end of the project, and after the graduation, there could be the opportunity to be included in the company, through a paid internship.
